Bodegas Castano Hecula Monastrell 2015

The new vintage from this internationally acclaimed vineyard from Spain has just been released and has a strong record of amazing reviews. A lot of what goes into a smooth red is the age of the vines. Here we're looking at 40 year old vines, which is crazy for a wine selling at this price. 

This wine is undoubtedly an over achiever. The Monastrell grape (also known as Mourvedre) has meaty, herby aromas which are very distinctive, as are its strong tannins.  But the age of the vines softens the wine out to give you a powerfully rich and very muscular red  Deep purple in colour with rich elegant bouquet with aromas of blueberries, black ripe raspberries and liquorice, with a subtle touch of white flowers on the background and a chalky character. Full bodied with a smooth long finish. Great with hearty meats.
